Just because we are Family Photographers in Kansas City doesn’t mean we won’t travel to beautiful destinations for your session! With this session we traveled to the Wildlife Refuge in Oklahoma for a shootout with the insanely talented Kayla Locke with Locke Photography. This is a family client of hers that she styled, organized and directed. Luckily, I got to experience this session with her, because it’s on of my favorites!!
Why choose the Wildlife Refuge for your next lifestyle family session? The landscape is a dream. Imagine stepping into a place where life slows down and the world feels untouched. Vast prairies roll into the horizon, golden in sunlight and wildflowers stretch out over the land. Bison, elk and longhorn cattle roam freely and if you’re lucky, you might catch a glimpse of a prairie dog colony. Springtime brings out the explosion of color: Indian paintbrush, coreopsis, and coneflowers paint the land with vibrant hues. Basically, it feels like you’re not in the midwest.
This is a time to hang up your phones, let your children explore, feel connected to the land and capture lasting family photos in a profoundly beautiful location. They can climb on rocks, make bouquets of wildflowers, watch for wildlife and run through the flower lined trails filled with red dirt.
These sweet girls had the time of their life. Because the Wildlife Refuge has so many natural elements, they played almost the entire time. During the evening, Kayla had them moving almost the entire time. For instance, they pretended to be butterflies and birds, picked the biggest bouquets of flowers, and even twirled with Dad. In contrast, Kayla also slowed things down for those sweet snuggling shots that we all love. We soaked up every last drop of the summer sunset. Once it was gone, we even shot in blue light. Thanks to Kayla Locke showing me this beautiful location, I can’t get back to the Wildlife Refuge!
