Portrait Photography in Manhattan KS is definitely in a league of its own. This dreamy, golden hour, family farm session made for such a beautiful session. The natural beauty, nostalgic atmosphere, and Kansas golden hour magic provided a picturesque backdrop. Golden hour is that sweet spot right before the sun fully sets. The sun sets low in the sky and casts a soft warm glow. Colors are vibrant and skin tones are so true and creamy.

Side lighting might possibly be my all time favorite kind of lighting. As the sun sets it’s warm and less harsh. It wraps around the subject rather than casting harsh shadows with extreme highlights and lowlights. It’s a natural filter and provides a romantic atmosphere.

As the sun dips just above the horizon it bathes everything in a gentle, gooey, golden light. The sky transforms into a canvas of warm oranges, yellows, and pink tones. The lighting is diffused and skims the surfaces with a subtle shimmer.

Did you ever know that you can still photograph beautiful pictures after the sun dips below the horizon? As long as you can still see some light, simply turn your clients around and have them face the sun. It warms things up even more and brings all your colors to full saturation. I can’t tell you how many times I thought I was finished with a session but the family was completely relaxed and in their own moment. I didn’t want to miss it, so I kept photographing. Sometimes the most fun moments happen at this time.

As a portrait Photographer in Manhattan KS, it is my desire to tell your story. Next time you book your session, book with us for a warm golden sunset session. Are you ready?
